But too often, we’re not reflected in what we see around us.

Why over 40? Why me, and why now?

My name is Kelly Kendall. I’m 44, and I’m a portrait photographer.

But more importantly—I’m someone who’s been on this journey, too.

I’ve been in this work for years, but something shifted after 40. I started noticing how many women around me were pulling back. From the camera. From their power. From themselves.

And if I’m being honest? I was doing the same thing.

I used to avoid photos of myself—always noticing what I wanted to change. But through healing, reflection, and a lot of unlearning, I’ve started showing up as I am. And I’m proud of her.

When I stepped in front of the camera for my own portrait experience, it moved something in me. Seeing myself—not the version I thought I had to be, but the one I actually am—was incredibly powerful.

That’s what I want to offer through this project.

This experience isn’t about looking younger.
It’s about honoring the woman you’ve become.
It’s about visibility, voice, and the freedom to take up space.

This is personal.
This is legacy.
This is for us.
